  Do WT Publications Make Us Feel Unworthy, Unlovable and Helpless?

  it is my contention that the wtbts, (as do all high-control, authoritarian cults), deliberately cultivates dysfunctional beliefs among its members.

  in particular, the most destructive of these beliefs are those that undermine one's feelings of self-worth.

  for a research project i am doing, i am looking for direct quotes from wt publications that seem to be specifically designed to manipulate the readers into feeling: unworthy, unlovable, inadequate and/or helpless.

  If you feel good it must be bad. If you feel bad it must be good. Is this what is meant by feeling unworthy, unlovable and helpless? Then yes this is what the WT publications always have taught. Still Totally ADD

  Welcome back Preston. Just when I was coming on to the board you left because of health. Many new ones have come to the board in the last few years. According to the Borg we are all mentally diseased. The GB have become big TV stars in their own mind. They now have cartoons encouraging children to give their ice cream money to the Borg. The Borg sex crimes are becoming more exposed. Also their charitable status is in question in many country's. That is all I can think of now. Happy to have you back. Still Totally ADD

  Did You Know You Can Have Seizures While You Sleep and Not Know It?

  i have to take some time off even from some of my favorite activities for a while...that means here...until i can adjust to a new medical therapy.. i just learned today that i have nocturnal epilepsy and have been having seizures almost every night for several decades!

  wow!

  just started medication that will mess me up when it comes to processing my thinking and typing for a while, so until that straightens out i will just have to read for now.. but look it up.

  What is the most bizarre counsel you received as a JW, from a JW?

  there were many addressed to me.

  for example, i once had a sister tell me i was gambling because i liked playing skill crane (the machine where you have to try to pick up prizes like stuffed animals) at the arcade.

  i then fired back a her: "you saw the r-rated movie 'backdraft.

  One time I told a C.O. the reason I was missing some meetings was I was my wife and I was blessed by God with a new baby. He took me aside and told me God didn't bless me with anything I just had sex with my wife and she got pregnant. That was no excuse to miss meetings. Let's all repeat it (It's A Cult).   i voted this morning for the first time.

  at 32yo i wondered in a church of england parish hall with no idea what i was doing.

  everyone else knew how to do it.

  Great story P.E. Here on the other side of the pond I went through the same guilt. The first time I ever voted I was 57 years old. No lightning, earthquakes or hail stone's. Just a nice sunny day. By the way being a born-in I act like a little kid when it comes to birthdays and Christmas. LOL. Still Totally ADD

  so i was looking on instagram and one of my former jw friends was showing pictures of his bbq ribs and saying something about well we better eat all the pigs we can now since we won't be eating meat in the new system of things?

  i don't seem to remember that teaching but does anyone else?

  i think there's a level of cognitive dissonance that is present within many that leave over the shunning thing.

  i hear so many tales of people that leave and think that their family will talk to them.

  sure, that does happen, but it's by far the minority.

  Thank you for your good insight on the matter dubstepped. This truly helps me deal with my kids shunning my wife and I. As long as they are in the cult they are truly toxic. This helps a lot. Still Totally ADD

  a recent comment in another thread inspired this one.. the comment concerned a family who owned a bakery and got counsel on the icing and cake decorations.. the cakes reflected the theme of worldly holidays of that time.. the family was told to sell the bakery.. then, we have the case of jalessa castillo, a young u.s. journalist who happens to also be a pioneer in a congregation.

  she was covering religious topics (among other topics) and it seems that got stopped?.

  at least when you look online now it is very hard to find her name in the byline of anything religious in nature.

  Yes Smiddy I remember when I was working for a construction company I had to work on a church one day. I really was feeling bad about what I did then something came out in a wt. That said if you are a employee and have to work on a church it was a conscience matter. All I know is the wt. was always finding ways of causing stress in your life with all their silly rules.   i bring up this subject because of all the restrictions children have to endure in the jw cult.

  they are made prisoners of mind and body.

  being forced to do things that are not natural for children to do.

  Stephane Yes the religion as a whole is abusive because of this my parents went out of their way to amplify it.

  David Jay I cannot accept that the wt. Is not responsible for a lot of the abuse that takes place in the org. Not only did I had abusive parents but abusive PO, most of the congregation and many CO. This religion is sick.
